Mount Isa Golf Course is built across the normally dry Silverlena Creek, a tributary of the Leichhardt River, but the water course allows for the growth of very large, beautiful and majestic gum trees. The abundant birdlife includes colourful lorikeets, sulphur crested cockatoos, pink-and-grey galahs and parrots along with flocks of ibis, that all inhabit this quiet sanctuary year round. Kangaroos and wallabies can be seen on the red hills surrounding the course and in the evenings they make their way to the fairways.

The City of Mount Isa Open, the longest running provincial tournament in Queensland is held each year in July, played over 54 holes. Various other tournaments and championship events are held throughout the year. See Mount Isa Golf Club website link above for more information.

Past Club Champions include Peter McWhinney, Shane Tait, Craig Jones, John Senden, Stuart Bouvier, Terry Price and other well known golfers. Mount Isa also claims Greg Norman as its home town boy, as Norman was born here and spent his early days in the city.
